Many organisations give lip service (and often glossy graphic design) around mission, vision and values but stop there, thinking they have somehow ticked the “feel good” box around their workplace. In fact, it has often proven to be worse than not doing anything at all if you then fail to embed the behaviours that make those values a daily reality for all of your staff. The hollowness of words can translate directly into disillusion and turnover.
I will conduct a clear, thorough and independent diagnosis of your current workplace culture and provide a high level strategic map on what could be done to improve things, jargon-free and practical.
Organisational Culture Transformation
My approach here is different to most other change agents. The focus is on the realisation of productivity through a combination of practice and culture, intertwined. Most organisations try to solve their problems or increase their productivity and efficiency with structural change or even just with new technology, but these often fail to realise their full potential without a commensurate investment in the cultural and people side of the equation. Conversely, some organisations will espouse a range of culturally aspirational values, but put nothing material or procedural in place that will make it possible for people to actually behave those values. Most other consultants are either Change Management professionals who predominantly take a structural/procedural approach or Organisational Development professionals who come from a human resources and culture angle but lack the ability to deliver the practical. My and my clients’ success is born in the marriage of the two.
The Power of a Diverse and Inclusive Culture
We are all the products of our environments, and as such we are all vulnerable to the unconscious/implicit biases that we have grown up with. These have a cost, both to ourselves and to those around us. Learning to recognise these damaging biases, understand their roots and mitigate their impact is an ongoing exercise for all of us.
I will help provide the tools required to lead with empathy and compassion and the learning to understand the broader context in which these biases have emerged and what they do to hold you, your organisation and people back.
We will work with all levels of the organisation to develop inclusive leadership and to value diversity within your teams/colleagues.
With #MeToo, #BlackLivesMatter, #Pride and other movements highlighting longstanding disparities in equality, there is increased pressure for organisations to respond to these and reassure their staff and the world that they are not just paying lip-service to the disenfranchised but taking concrete, measurable and systemic action. I will bring my personal and professional experience to support any organisation willing to take this seriously.
